Air Thread Connections Essay

Prepare the Airthread Connections case using the following questions as a guide: 1. What methodological approach (APV, WACC, FTE, or some combination) should Ms. Zhang use to value Air Thread? Hint: It may be possible to use more than one techniques simultaneously. The valuation of the Airthread Connections is conducted to assist American Cable Communication to decide if the acquisition of the Airthread Connections should be processed to achieve potential synergies. We access the net value of the Airthread Connections by adjusting its present value (APV). We chose APV as our business valuation method because Airthread Connection’s financial information required by APV method is relatively sufficient and solid comparing with the information required by other valuation methods. We believe that the good quality of data can guarantee the reliability of our valuation. Our valuation process includes the following six steps. 1. Decide the present value of unlevered free cash flows. 2. Evaluate the weighted average cost of capital. 3. Appraise the value of tax shields. 4. Access the terminal value. 5. Estimate the present value of non-operating assets. 6. Applying the illiquidity discount. 2. What discount rate should Ms. Zhang use for unlevered FCF for 2008-2012? Is this the same rate that should be used to calculate the TV? Why or why not? 3. Develop an estimate of the long-term steady-state growth rate for use in the TV calculation. 4. What is the total value of AirThread before considering any synergies?

Adrenaline Air Sports

The greatest percentage of first time customers Is college students, Just Like he town of Blackburn, with a population of 40,000 people plus about 25,000 enrolled college students. Greensboro, North Carolina Is about 80 miles South of Janesville and most of the students don't return for a second dive because of the cost. Only 3 percent of the skydivers return to stay In the sport. Since first time divers have the highest margin, ;RSI important to get these divers to stay In the sport. There are two main competitors for AS in the same area about 120 miles Northeast of Janesville that must compete for the population in Ranked. These two companies are more advantaged because they offer more availability, larger and aster planes, and charger more in fees. They are both open year round on the weekends and are open at least 4 days during the high season. AS only has two competitors to beat, which is a plus, considering their strengths. But the scenery that AS has to offer is more beautiful than the scenery of the other two companies.Internal factors that affect AS is employee schedules. Most of the employees for AS are part-time workers, including the owner, Bill Cockerel. Bill and is employees are only available to work the weekends they are scheduled to work during the open season. Bill works another Job and the earliest he can be at AS is at pm on Fridays. There is only one cameraman, which means only one person, per film, per flight. Videos are given only on Sundays, and with new student reservations on Mondays, those videos arena received until the following Sunday. There are currently two Cessna 182 planes, which take longer to reach higher altitudes. The maximum height for AS is 10,000 feet. The Cessna planes hold up to four parachutists at one time. During the high season, this becomes a problem because AS only has four parachutes in its possession; two tandems and two accelerate free-fall parachutes. By analyzing this case, I found It necessary for AS to do tw o things. First they can keep the Cessna planes they already have and extend their work days to Fridays and Mondays to make more available times to customers.Since this Is a second Job for most of the employees, Including the owner, more employees will be needed or longer shift hours for the employees that are already there. A new, larger plane wouldn't be necessary In this action because there will be more time available to work the flights. The second option for AS would be to purchase a larger plan that revives a faster turnaround time, reach higher altitudes, and hold more passengers. In doing this, AS will need to be a full-time company, with extended weekends In the high season. The profit margin and hourly rates will increase if this is implemented. IT one AT ten Cessna are solo , ten money can De uses to lighten ten cost AT ten new plane. AS will need to raise their prices and do heavy advertisement to fill passenger slots on the planes. Although the first option allows the c ompany to grow at a slower pace, I think the second option is sounder for the company. AS should become full-time and add mom of the serious skydivers as employees. With more employees and an extended weekend, an increase for fees is necessary. The demand for skydiving with the company is at good standing. AS needs to make it available to accommodate those potential customers. Adding at least one more camera would be a great step because the video helps with advertising the company's services. Finding more first time jumpers and creating a program which allows them to return is the key to generating the income that is needed. Once they've Jumped two or three times, the chances of them returning are high.

Construction and organisation management. Tendering and estimating Essay

Construction and organisation management. Tendering and estimating - Essay Example But now the situation is getting better and the CSN also stated that the industry will have a growth rate of 1.4% each year from 2011-14. Under such a recession that the medium and small contractors must restrategize themselves, their policies and their operating zones. As it is seen that the north parts of UK have seen massive downturn, and whereas other parts such as wales and London have seen growth due to important events such as Olympics and etc. It is to be noted that there are about 614 contracting companies working in the south east England which is the highest no of companies that work in any other region of UK, on the other hand there are about 511 contracting companies that operated in the London region. This statistics clearly show the high level of saturation in the market and the stiff competition to get projects. This fact the bidding process of L & H significantly, as L & H should go for the project which it has been invited for and at the same time it should be consc ious of the fact that cost analysis of the project should be done vigorously and carefully as new location of project can open new markets for the company as well as cause loss to the company due to in experience in that region. The solution I suggest for the problem is that L & H must go for the bidding process with its full strength and if it is successful in getting the project it must involve and hire the workers and form a team which consists of the local people as well as L & H old loyal workers. Personally I believe that if L & H gets the new work at even a small profit it should go for it, as the main focus of the company should be getting projects and sustaining itself in recession. Then another fact that is to be noted that the growth rate of construction industry is about 1.4% but the growth rate of the south east England is just 0.8% which clearly shows that the growth in this region is less and companies need to move out of the region to sustain their own growth. Then L & H must also view which type of project is it bidding for, it is to be noted that there is huge growth in some sectors of construction industry and there is huge decay in the others. It is suggested that the L & H should be looking forward in creating its good will and name in the public sector as it is the only sector having significant funding at the moment. Whereas on the other hand private sector is not any longer investing much as it is in process to recover itself from the recession and has no confidence on the returns. It is to be noted that infrastructure sector of the construction industry is growing immensely that is it is growing at a rate of more than 6.7 % and majority of the projects coming up are of Infrastructure, contrary to this is the housing sector which is badly struck and experience a decay of 3.9 %. So when L & H must be bidding and going for projects in infrastructure sector. Concluding the discussion if L & H is to survive in these difficult times of reces sion and have to sustain its own growth it has to take a certain level of risk which is to expand its operational area and work in areas where there is both growth and lesser competition. On the other hand it has to emerge itself as a mainstream public sector contractor which mains interest is working in infrastructure and development. b) Morale has been low on several sites in one area, communication and quality of work has suffered. Discuss It has been proved

What athe fundamentals of a case control study, give details Presetn Research Paper

What athe fundamentals of a case control study, give details Presetn the stregths and weakness of the approach. Debate with two peers and debate the peers rationale - Research Paper Example The main aim is always to analyze a disease to determine the exposure of the risk factor from the two groups of individuals, which are the cases and controls. A case study is devised for odds estimation. Since a case control study depends on retrospective data, there is a prospect of having recall bias. Recall bias is primarily the propensity of subjects to report events in an approach that is dissimilar between two groups of study. This means that people who are suffering from a disease are more inclined to remember the risk of exposure than those not having the disease (Bonita, 2006). Case control studies have their strengths and weaknesses. Let us start by discussing its strengths. Firstly, they are primarily the most realistic studies for exposing etiology in uncommon diseases. This helps people to understand the presence of new diseases in the community. They are also used in cases of disease outbreaks to understand the nature of the disease whether it is old or new. Furthermore, case control studies use minimal time to be conducted since the disease in study is always present. Lastly, it is an effective method of study since it gives information on new disease that other studies could have failed to find out (Gordis, 2009). However, there are also weaknesses of case control studies. Retrospective studies are predisposed to bias because of the quality of data occasioned by the reliance on memory. Moreover, people with a particular disease are most probably more motivated to recall the exposure of risk factors (recall bias). Secondly, case control studies are not appropriate in the evaluation of diagnostic tests since there is evidence that the cases have the condition whereas the controls do not have it. Still, it is an uphill task to get control groups. They are also restricted to give a single outcome and the incidence rates cannot be calculated. Lastly, case control studies

What are the key challenges facing educational leaders in relation to Thesis

What are the key challenges facing educational leaders in relation to Information and Communication technology - Thesis Example Educational leaders are excited as well. They are aware of how Information and Communication Technology (ICT) can have a great impact on education and on the students they cater to. However, there are many challenges that beset them. They need to equip students with increasingly higher levels of knowledge and skill not only through the provision of a conventional curriculum incorporating ICT, but also help them develop personal qualities such as being autonomous, self-organizing, networking, enterprising, innovative (Hargreaves, 1999), with the capability constantly to redefine the necessary skills for a given task, and to access the sources for learning these skills (Castells, 1998). Such aims are truly challenging to achieve. The openness and attitudes of teachers, being the frontliners in this particular educational reform is examined. Most teachers are not adequately prepared yet to make use of exciting new educational technologies because neither their teacher education programs nor their schools have provided sufficient time or incentives for them to learn (Norman, n.d.). Teachers themselves need to be transformed from the traditional ways of organizing teaching and learning in school to using more technical skills in more open, user-friendly, peer-controlled, interactive, virtual communities. Teachers need to model flexibility, networking and creativity which are key outcomes for students to survive the next millennium (Hargreaves, 1999). Training of teachers in ICT and staff development is one huge challenge faced by educational leaders. Psychologically, technology can pose problems for staff feeling threatened and insecure of being dispensable, and easily replaced by the new innovation (Jones & O’Shea, 2004). This is mostly appeased by effective training. Human resources strategy and practice is central to the successful staff development. Enhancing

Republican vs. democratic views on a problem Essay

Republican vs. democratic views on a problem - Essay Example Democrats generally tend to take a more short-term approach to fixing the economy. When individuals in the nation are hurt by a weakened dollar or other negative environmental events, democrats begin looking toward ways to stabilize the lifestyles of the majority of citizens in the nation. Republicans support the efforts of corporate in the event of economic problems. This support would generally come in the form of business tax breaks and other economic incentives, designed to stabilize the health and wealth of the contemporary businessperson. Adam Smith, a renowned 18th Century economist, believed that strengthening the economic position of companies creates a trickle-down effect through jobs creation and social improvements. Smith further suggested that companies maintain no other responsibility other than to build a profit so that society can reap the benefits of better products. Republicans appear to believe strongly in the theories proposed by Adam Smith, as each time the nation faces an economic struggle, the Republican Party begins searching for new methods to boost the strength of the publicly-traded (Wall Street)

INDP, Part 2 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

INDP, Part 2 - Essay Example The design is TCP/IP protocol and Distributed network protocol. TCP/IP protocol is supported by many software applications and has universally accepted terms. In TCP, data is divided into manageable bits and the protocol ensures that secure and appropriate routines are in place to oversee data correctly arrives to its destination. Then IP enforces logical addressing and routing of data which brings in the reliability factor (Garduno & Diaz, 2011). TCP/IP supports ASCII standards that help in formatting information transmitted into a range of supported formats such as JPEG, text and MP3 standards among others. Distributed network protocol on the other hand supports communication in process automation systems and supports peer-to-peer and master-to-slave communications. Above all, this protocol is reliable in terms of security; it contains secure authentication features and does not require heavy infrastructure. Cost wise, both protocols are fairly affordable to implement due to fair i nfrastructural costs (Garduno & Diaz, 2011). Other features that make these protocols appropriate include both are open protocols, they support interoperability between different platforms and they can be optimized According to this design, the adopted network architecture defines secure, interpretable infrastructure that provides reliable and open-standard based communication for distribution of information. The architecture also defines technologies required to support communications between various client machines and servers on the network (Garduno & Diaz,2011). There are established network standards that coordinate secure implementation of network architecture as well as supporting traditional data such as voice and video. The architecture is based on open standards In explaining the usefulness of a traffic analysis, When some work has been done for ISPs net flow can be used to determine PPS (Packets per second) to detect instances of DOS (Denial of Service) attacks.

In the practicalities of arranging a syndicated loan a lead bank has Essay

In the practicalities of arranging a syndicated loan a lead bank has clear functions but its legal position and responsibilities are both potentially very ambiguous Discuss - Essay Example It follows from this that the legal responsibilities of the lead bank is very important as it represents an important link between the syndicate and their individual relationships with the borrower.2 Even so, the lead bank’s legal position is ambiguous since it coordinates what can amount to conflicting obligations between the syndicate and the borrower. This paper examines the legal position and the responsibilities of the lead bank in arranging a syndicated loan and explains how both can be ambiguous. A syndicated loan is a multi-bank financing mechanism where a number of banks conjoin to advance a loan to a borrower based on a â€Å"single loan agreement.3 The legal complexity of this arrangement is explained by Mugasha as follows: â€Å"...the agreement is executed by more than one bank and there is privity of contract between the borrower and each of the banks. Legally, each of the banks has a separate contract with the borrower, even though for convenience, the separate contracts are printed in one document.†4 In a typical case, a borrower requires a loan which a single bank is either unwilling or unable to advance. It could be that the loan required is large and the bank approached is not prepared to accept the risk for the entire amount.5 In any case, the reluctance of a single bank to advance a loan often gives way to a syndicated loan or a â€Å"multi-bank loan arrangement† in which at least two banks advance loans to a single borrower â€Å"on common terms based on a single document.†6 Despite the single document, each bank has a separate agreement with the borrower.7 The result is, the obligation of the individual banks involved in the syndicate loan is several rather than joint.8 The lead bank’s legal position and responsibilities with respect to the syndicated loan arrangements is divided into two intricately connected participatory roles. First and foremost, the lead bank, which is usually the bank

Pizza Hut Case Study Essay Example for Free

Pizza Hut Case Study Essay Create awareness for the introduction of the new pizza crust ‘Freshizza’, highlighting FRESHNESS of the dough as a key ingredient for a perfect pizza. Situation Analysis Each Pizza Hut restaurant prepares fresh dough several times a day on premise, unlike competing brands whose stores receive crusts from a few central commissaries making the dough older by 1- 2 days. This fact had not been leveraged by Pizza Hut in the past. In the course of product development, Pizza Hut had commissioned research to evaluate the proposition of ‘Fresh’ among consumer focus groups. The key findings here revealed that ‘Freshness’ in the context of Indian bread (chappati’s) implied kneading fresh dough daily. Consumers preferred chappati’s made from freshly kneaded dough as they were softer and tastier than those made from two day old dough. This was unlike the perception on pizza’s where ‘Freshness’ was only understood as a piping hot pizza. Strategy The PR programme decided to use both the insights gained from the commissioned research, to present an all new pizza crust and focus on leveraging editorial opportunities to create awareness for freshness and differentiate the product on taste. In order to add credibility to product claims and influence media on the freshness of the product, PR Pundit considered it vital to get a leading food critique to endorse the product. Through dialogue and product sampling, the PR programme earned the support of India’s leading food writer Rashmi Uday Singh, a lady whose name is synonymous with good food in India, to demonstrate the freshness of the Pizza Hut’s pizzas, through a unique ‘Freshizza Cookery Show’. The Challenge The challenge was to garner media support to create awareness for freshness and differentiate the product on taste. CASE STUDIES Execution Tactics. The PR Campaign was conceptualised to create a dramatic launch to highlight the freshness of the product, while subtly suggesting that the competition’s product is not so fresh. The PR Plan rolled out with a cookery show and food sampling at New Delhi’s oldest Pizza Hut, which received nationwide media coverage. The programme was extended to the keenly competitive markets of Chennai, Bangalore and Mumbai. In Chennai and Bangalore a photo call was created with the in-store presence of local celebrities to launch Freshizza, while senior management addressed the media on the process followed at each restaurant to prepare fresh dough for pizza’s. The Mumbai launch was timed to coincide with the introduction of the television commercial (TVC) featuring one of India’s top model – Malaika Arora Khan. Consumer media was invited for a preview of the TVC and to the restructured cookery show ‘Get Fresh with Malaika’ featuring the top model and Rashmi Uday Singh at a local Pizza Hut. This resulted in yet another nation wide photo opportunity. In Kolkata and Pune, consumer and city press were invited to sample the new crust, while a press release with attractive product pictures was issued in Hyderabad and Chandigarh. HINDUSTAN TIMES ECONOMIC TIMES CASE STUDIES DIVYA BHASKAR The ‘Freshizza Cookery Show’ was fashioned to demonstrate the freshness of the pizza crusts from Pizza Hut in the form of a cookery show. The delightful repartee of actor Zayed Khan (Bollywood celebrity and brand ambassador of Pizza Hut) and food writer Rashmi Uday Singh was appreciated for its uniqueness and provided a live and interactive demonstration of the dough preparation process – from the blending stage to the final pizza making for the media. The sight of the duo rolling out fresh pizza crusts made for a perfect photo opportunity. Freshly baked Freshizza’s were served to the media for sampling In Mumbai too, the entire dough making process was recreated with the new face of the Freshizza campaign -Malaika Arora Khan paired with food writer Rashmi Uday Singh on the ‘Get Fresh with Malaika Show’. The launch was followed up by special Freshizza deliveries to key media offices to ensure broadest possible reach. Results and Impact. The launch events at the four major cities of the country received an enthusiastic response from nearly 150 journalists. The photo opportunity made it possible for product and brand to be carried across all major print, electronic and online media in India. In less than two months of the launch, one out of every four customers at Pizza Hut had tried out Freshizza, i. e. almost half a million customers have already sampled the product and the growth of sales grew by about 12–15 per cent per restaurant.

Concepts Regarding Truth And Falsehood Philosophy Essay

Concepts Regarding Truth And Falsehood Philosophy Essay The concepts regarding truth and falsehood are essential for valuing each situation that occur in life of any human being. All experiences of practice in everyday life are being constantly evaluated by perception resulting in ordering of the reality. Distinction between true and false allows for formation of statements and beliefs concerning not only individual but also general opinion developed in a certain culture. How do we know that something is true? Determination of false claims is far easier as they are simply defined as contradiction of truth. In my opinion there are no absolute distinctions between what is true and false exclusively regarding arts. In the remaining areas of knowledge the border between the truth and falsehood is more visible since the concept of truth can be proved in a variety of ways. Relating to major theories of truth it can be evaluated using basic tests such as pragmatic, coherence and correspondence test.  [1]  Socrates, Platos and Aristotles idea s about truth are consistent with correspondence theory.  [2]  According to Aristotle: To say of what is that it is not, or of what is not that it is, is false, while to say of what is that it is, and of what is not that it is not, is true.  [3]  The correspondence test demands that the statements correspond to what we observe in the world. To test, scientist examine the world and find evidence either directly through sense perception or via technological extensions of the senses.  [4]  One striking example illustrating this approach to the truth is the discovery of Gregor Mendel who has become famous for his study of the inheritance of certain traits in pea plants which substantially inflected the field of genetics.  [5]  His study was based on the sense perception and reasoning as he could have seen with his own eyes that the ratio of purple to white flowers of the pea plant was as he had expected. Consequently, using logics he has formulated the Law of Segregation and the Law of Independent Assortment which have been preserved in the modern biological science without major modifications. The basis of coherence test is consistency of the statements we make. To test, scientist look not at the world but at the knowledge claims themselves and, as mathematics does, examine them for consistency, freedom and contradiction.  [6]  On that ground mathematicians make assumptions which are based on earlier proves and thereafter test their reliability in practise. Therefore, the process of assignment of the truth in this area of knowledge relies on both coherence and pragmatics test. Pragmatics test demands that the statement work in practical terms. We accept certain assumptions without empirical proof, like axioms, because they happen to work. For example, we assume that nature is regular and understandable.  [7]  By and large, a fundamental unit that builds up mathematics as a science is reasoning due to which the statements considered as true have a very high validity. A complex approach to the truth mostly make use of the basic tools of logics such as deduction, indu ction or implication. Regarding the topic it must be examined in what ways the concept of truth can be approached in all areas of knowledge. It is a fact that using an equal pattern in order to distinguish between truth and falsity is impossible. An example illustrating this concern is the fact that it is popularly believed that the transfer in arts relies on a subjective perception of the perceiver. Nonetheless, regarding prominent creative power of William Shakespear most people feel that the intergenerational transfer of his dramas possess universal value being considered as immutable over centuries. With respect to the general understanding of truth which is assumed to be universal and eternal the phenomenon of Shakespears splendour can be explained. With reference to Hamlet, the creation of the protagonist contributed to formation of an image of a certain philosophical character which attitude towards life is associated with relativism and skepticism. On the whole, the problem raised in the drama is reckoned as universal since it concerns basic existential values experienced by any human being. One of the most famous citation in the world literature to be or not to be refers to the most frequent question undertaken by philosophers, yet impossible to resolve. The issue of uncertain ability to distinguish between what is true and false has a substantial value for me personally as in the recent time I have experienced this concern very sorely. The problem becomes far more elaborate when the only way of knowing responsible for the process of recognition of the validity of a claim are emotions. I started to deliberate to what extent should we base our belief that something is true on emotions when my intimate friend delivered me a message which included a quotation of my boyfriends statement which was characterised negatively towards me. Regarding unlimited trust toward the person I assessed this information as undoubtedly true. As a result, I mindlessly refused my boyfriends firm denial as I based my belief on the rule of womens solidarity. Nevertheless, too late have I realised that the major problem is that my assumption was stated using simplified schemas recorded by my sense perception and primary emotional confidence. On that account, s upported by the coherence theory I summarised analogous situations that occurred conducting on them detailed analysis. As expected, the test revealed that my friend lied to me consistently which was not detected by me due to having neglected reasoning which I consider the best way of knowing in terms of establishing the distinction between truth and falsehood. The question is how can we use reason to know whether information provided by intimate people is reliable or not. This can be briefly summarized reciting Steven Robiner who once said: What is absolutely true is always correct, everywhere, all the time, under any condition. An entitys ability to discern these things is irrelevant to that state of truth.  [8]   As far as I am concerned, there is a vague border between true and untrue in law. How can we verify whether a proposition of law is true? To my mind, regarding this field of science what is true equals what is approved and what is false means what is disapproved. Hence, the truth is generated by a certain group of people called lawyers. Does the fact of having graduated the law faculty mean that a person is capable of determination of true statements? The model of truth presented in law corresponds to the concept undertaken in one of Nietzsches essay  [9]  being a ground of his thinking in which he denies the concept of universal constants stating that what we call truth is only a mobile army of metaphors, metonyms, and anthropomorphisms.  [10]  This issue constitutes a dominant of Franz Kafkas novel The Process which highlights the problem of suffering of human being as a consequence of absurd legal procedures. Finally, taking into consideration poetry we should examine why there is usually one interpretation notwithstanding the fact that everybody is individual and so is the way of perceiving the world. Irrespective of this, at school we are presented a complex interpretation formed by authorities which is believed to be true and valid. The analysis of the literature bases on rhetorical devices which constitute actual advice how to understand the text. Nevertheless, it is still possible that some devices can be apprehended in multiple dimensions which may alter the general interpretation thus, to some extent undermine the authority. In spite of that possibility if I am received a poem during my finals I will be expected to deliver a concrete interpretation with the aid of concrete resources of language. Consequently, if I outline a proper rendition I will be awarded, but otherwise, if I develop my own version I will not be given points. In my opinion, in such a situation the image of truth created by Nietzsche  [11]  is right. According to him, truth is nothing more than the invention of fixed conventions for merely practical purposes, especially those of repose, security and consistence.  [12]  To conclude, the truth in poetry might be considered two-tailed, being either absolute as the official interpretation established by experts or relativistic which refers to subjective version generated by an individual. Settlement of the border between those to contrastive directions of analysis of the truth is very difficult as there is a conflict between universal truth which is approved by the majority and the opposing theory of Albert Einstein according to which everything is relative. Taking everything into account, the establishment of the universal border between truth and falsehood is not a simple task as the concern can be regarded in a variety of ways depending on the context. The difficulty is a result of the abstract nature of those concepts due to which there will always be some margin of error in the judgment. Even though my hypothesis was rather strict having considered several situations it should be restated. For the above mentioned reasons, I think that to a large extent there are no explicit distinctions between what is true and what is false as the only limits derive from theories which are a product of human reasoning which is not flawless likewise anything in the world.

Essay --

Fate plays an important role in Romeo and Juliet. Who thought this four letter word would play such a big part in this play? In this play we see that the characters believe fate is what rules their lives, and that it is their reality. Their lives lie in the hands of fate. It always brings trouble, especially between the Capulet and Montague families. The fates of both Romeo and Juliet were predetermined in the prologue when it said â€Å"a pair of star crossed lovers take their life.†(Prologue) As their love for each other progresses, so does the ominous signs of death that show up. Characters start having premonitions and dreams of their unhappy ending. Even after the omens and signs, the lovers loved each other so deeply that they did not care about them as they just easily dismissed them. We as the audience know that Romeo and Juliet will die in the end, and their fate is shown and unraveled throughout the plot. Because as the audience we know the fate of Romeo and Juliet from the beginning, we are always hoping that they will take different paths of life. However, both their fates a...

Mini-ethnography On Gamer Culture Essay -- essays research papers

â€Å"Man, Fragged by the LPB Sniper again!!!† That may sound like nonsense to the average person but to the seasoned Counterstrike veteran it speaks volumes. Today, millions of people of all ages are coming together on the Internet to compete against each other in a variety of online games. The most popular of which is an online modification of the game Half-life entitled Counterstrike. Counterstrike itself is comprised of players broken up in to two teams, terrorists and counter terrorists, who then compete against each other to achieve a range of goals in a variety of levels. People from anyplace in the world can log in to one of the hundreds of Counterstrike servers running on the Internet and team up with and play against anybody anywhere. To play the game players manipulate their characters movements inside the simulated scenario they see on their monitor. They do so by using the keyboard and mouse in tandem to move around the level, find opposing players and then â€Å"frag† or kill them with whatever weapon they currently have, there by eliminating them for the remainder of the round. However, in most cases the teams’ goals are more complex than just eliminating the other team. For instance, in one level one player assumes the role of the V.I.P. and his counter terrorist teammates try to escort him to a helicopter on the other side of the level. The terrorist teams objective is to find and assassinate the V.I.P. before he is able to escape. This and other missions like it create an exciting and adrenaline filled environment that are part of the reason gamers just can not quit. For the most part people team up with and compete against people they haven’t met and probably never will meet in a face-to-face manner. This yields some very interesting results. I was able to observe two peers of mine playing Counterstrike online in the same room on their separate computers on several occasions for extended periods. Also, I installed Counterstrike on my computer here in my dorm room and played online myself a number of times. The first thing that I noted and the first I am going to talk about is the player’s ability to create and maintain their own online identity. Every player in an online game of Counterstrike or any other game for that matter has his or her own handle or call sign. They are nicknames that the players come up with themselves and adopt as names ... ...10 dollars to gain access to an online server that acts as a simulated finite world for each person to place their character in. Players manipulate their character and basically live that person’s live in that finite simulated world that contains other players. They buy property, get a job and interact with other players. I was unable to actually observe anyone playing Everquest or play it myself. However it seems to take the level of interaction to new levels. For obvious reasons I find that a little unsettling. I think that is safe to say that many people actually prefer their simulated online personas and friends to their real life ones. That may pose new problems in the future. At the pace that technology is currently developing I think that soon the number of people who find more satisfaction and fulfillment in their â€Å"cyber lives† will only grow. Also, to speculate a little I think that in the future it will probably be possible to immerse yourself in a to tally simulated environment. Will be people totally isolate themselves and spend years inside life simulations oblivious to the real world but still perfectly content to live out their days in a Matrix like cyber dreamscape?

A Journey into the Heart of American Adolescence

Teenagers will be teenagers.   Perhaps this is the best way to understand the lives of eight teenagers in Hersch’s (1999) book, A Tribe Apart: A Journey into the Heart of American Adolescence.   Although Hersch only writes about American teenagers, adolescents around the world may be able to relate to the eight kids interviewed by the author. They are naughty, to say the least, and their parents seem to have little or no interest in how they are leading or in fact ruining their lives.   The teenagers use illegal drugs, enjoy premarital sex, steal, get into trouble, and essentially do everything that they are most likely to do in the absence of adults from their lives.Adults have abused them through neglect or other means.   Hence, the young people do not have real models to follow.   Instead, they experiment with life so as to learn their own lessons before adulthood strikes.   Many of the lessons that such teenagers may learn will undoubtedly be painful if not plai n sad.It is clear to the reader of A Tribe Apart that these teenagers could have been saved from the difficulties they may inevitably face by following models of propriety. All the same, it is impossible to find such models when their parents are missing from home and out at work.   Teachers may not be able to fill in the gap seeing as it is the parents’ responsibility to teach morality to their kids for the latter to consider it believable.   After all, children are meant to spend more time with their parents than with their teachers. The teenagers of A Tribe Apart do not belong to poor families.   Researchers have often described adolescents from poor families who are neglected or abused by other means before they turn into drug addicts or thieves.Teenagers belonging to poor families are therefore believed by the masses to be morally degraded.   The unique fact about Hersch’s book is that all of the teenagers she has interviewed for her research belong to the h ealthy middle class.   Perhaps this makes it easier for adolescents around the globe to relate to the eight teenagers in her book. Most if not all teenagers may be considered ‘a tribe apart’ as the reader contemplates the fact that both the haves and the have-nots behave in similar ways through adolescence.   Indeed, teenagers belonging to poor families appear to be destroying their lives just like the adolescents interviewed by Hersch for her study. The good news is, however, that Hersch’s book could serve as a warning signal for parents who have neglected or abused their growing kids in other ways.   If parents do not take heed, their growing kids may very well shape themselves as adults that behave like their own parents.   Wealth does not matter in this case.   Rather, teenagers would remain as stereotypical teenagers – experimenting with adulthood in their youth.   They know no boundaries. They are always crossing their limits.   Most impor tantly, there is nobody to guide them out of their troubled existence.   Drugs and sex become the sole source of joy for them.   Thus, Hersch’s book is a wake up call that all parents must give serious thought to.   The fact that eight teenagers confided in Hersch must also be taken seriously.   It is possible for parents to honestly understand their kids.   Hersch has proved this with her research.

Spina Bifida Research Paper

Spina Bifida A type of birth defect that affects the skeletal system is Spina Bifida. Spina Bifida is a nueral tube defect that occurs when the bones of the spine or the vertebrae do not form accurately around the spinal cord. In severe cases it can inhibit a persons walking or daily activities. There are three basic forms of Spina Bifida. The mildest form is Occulta, the next would be Meningocele and the most severe is Myelomeningocele. (http://www. uptodate. com/contents/overview-of-the-management-of-myelomeningocele-spina-bifida 2012) Myelomeningocele is the case that affects the skeletal system the most. With this, the nerves in the spine protrude out of the spinal canal and a bulge in the skin may appear. If nerves become damaged, there may be a high chance that there could be problems with walking, coordination and bowel and bladder control. The exact cause of Spina Bifida is not known. (Foti 2012) Some say that it could be genetic and is more likely to happen in women that are obese and have diabetes. Symptoms that may indicate that a child has Spina Bifida, include, a curve in the spine, nerves coming out of the back and swelling of the spine. Also, the child will have nerve damage, which can mean that they will have little or no feeling in the legs, feet and or arms. (http://www. mayoclinic. com/health/spina-bifida/DS00417 2012) Another indicator could be a build up of fluid in the brain. Spinal deformity occurs most frequently in patients with Myelomeningocele. It can manifest as kyphosis, scoliosis or lordosis. Most children diagnosed with Spina Bifida also have an allergy to latex. (http://www. everydayhealth. com/health-center/spina-bifida-symptoms. aspx 2012) The diagnosis for Spina Bifida is usually determined by a blood test that a woman has during pregnancy. Most people find out that their child has this defect before he or she is born. If it is not determined before birth, it may be diagnosed by how the baby’s back looks and as they get to the pint of where they should start crawling and standing. You will be able to notice how the weekness in the muscle and bones are. Children that are born wih Spina Bifida may also have mental disabilities as well because it affects the brain just as much as it affects the spine and nerves. Feminism Essay

Feminist ideas of freedom suggest that outside social forces that are repressive can corrupt an individual’s desires and limits their thinking abilities. Jean Grimshaw was a feminist philosopher who analyzed this concept. Grimshaw with other feminists believed that these repressive forces come from male domination in society. Questions about the self are important to feminists because they are constantly trying to figure out a woman’s autonomy. Feminist philosophers have come up with many approaches to the self. Jean Grimshaw goes back to an argument from Aristotle. Aristotle questions what makes people do things voluntarily and out of free will. Aristotle says that that actions that originate from inside the self are desires or intentions and actions that originate from outside are not. Jean Grimshaw however questions whether those desires that come from outside are not really one’s own desires. There is a constant conflict between internal and external constraints. Feminist authors such as Mary Daly, Marilyn Frye and Kate Millet wrote books on how women have been conditioned in their thinking by men, therefore cannot have their own desires. Feminists agree that women are deprived of their free will because men treat them as robots and this changes a woman’s personality. Based on the books of these three authors there is many things to conclude about the self. The self is aware of its interests, it is altered because of the interference of male domination and the only way to really have a true self is to fight against those social effects of domination. A woman must understand the changes they are going through by men in society in order to reveal the self. I believe that if someone is constantly thinking that there are outside forces that disable form being they they must change that. If the male society undermines women, and women continue to accept it then they are not following their own desires. One must understand the constraints that they are dealing with in order to make independent choices to be liberated.

Qnt-561 Week 1

Week Four Team Paper xxxxxxxxxxxxxx QNT/561 August 1, 2012 xxxxxxxxx Week 4 Team Paper Best Buy is a company that has 40 years of history with a very accomplished sense of success. In 1966 Best Buy was a small electronics store in that originated in St. Paul Minnesota by Richard Schulze and an acquainted business partner. Considering that technology changes so rapidly, Best Buy has had to transform from just being the little electronics store down the way into a competitive, customer-driven, talent-powered company that emphasizes on pleasing the customers as it pertains to the life of technology. In 1993 Best Buy was recognized as the nation’s second largest electronics retailer and was recognized by Forbes in 2004 as the â€Å"Company of the Year. † However, in 2012 Best Buy had a huge layoff which resulted into 50 store closings. The competitors for Best buy include online stores like Amazon, Buy. com, Tiger direct and various others. Purpose Best Buy stores are locate d throughout the United States and every year additional employees are hired to help staff during the holiday season (known as seasonal staffing and typically runs during holiday season).Higher head count is inefficient and expensive. This poses an organizational dilemma; can sales data be used to identify the appropriate number of temporary employees that need to be hired during the holiday season? Considering the sheer amount of stores that require temporary staffing data will be collected from all its stores and used to identify the staffing needs. Research Design Give the nature of business of Best Buy Quantitative research should be applied. It involves gathering data and then organizes, tabulates, depicts, and describes the data collection (Glass & Hopkins, 1984).The dependent variable that will be looked at is staffing levels. A dependent variable is one that â€Å"is measured, predicted, or otherwise monitored and expected to affected by manipulation of an independent varia ble† (Cooper & Schindler 2011). Because this data will only be measured once, products sold and staffing levels, a descriptive quantitative design will be utilized. â€Å"For an accurate estimate of the relationship between variables, a descriptive study usually needs a sample of hundreds or even thousands of subjects† (The Association for Educational Communications and Technology). The estimate of the relationship is less likely to be biased if you have a high participation rate in a sample selected randomly from a population. Operational Definitions Operational Definitions Variable Definition Data of Interest #1 The number of products sold during the Holiday Season How will it be measured #1 If the product was sold between November 15 and January 5 Data of Interest #2 Number of temporary employees during the Holiday Season How will it be measured #2 If a temporary employee was active after November 15 and inactive after January 15 Sample Data Collection DesignsThere ar e various methods of collecting data such that the information collected can be used to draw inferences about the target population. The sales forecast is the key component for the problem statement and for accuracy it is important to know what consumers prefer over Best Buy. Participation in business surveys is usually voluntary and the quality of the results depends crucially on the willingness of enterprises to co-operate. A promising approach to getting high response rates is to make compliance as painless as possible through good questionnaire design and rotation of respondents. It is also important that the enterprises included in the survey should be convinced that the information they provide will be useful to the enterprises themselves in addition to any use it may have for macro-economic analysis. Conclusion Because the human mind cannot extract the full import of a large mass of raw data, descriptive statistics are very important in reducing the data to manageable form. Wh en in-depth, narrative descriptions of small numbers of cases are involved, the research uses description as a tool to organize data into patterns that emerge during analysis. Those patterns aid the mind in comprehending a qualitative study and its implications. Mentoring: A Way of Life -an integrative paper of the course ‘Art of Mentoring’ Essay

In this course, â€Å"Art of Mentoring†, I learned the relevance of mentoring in education, counseling ministry and self-directed learning of graduate students. The objective of the course was to encourage us students to use mentoring in different fields of profession and in service to the religious community. Having finished the course, I am inspired to use the concepts of mentoring in my personal education and be more effective in my profession, other involvements, as well using these concepts in my personal life. I realized that mentoring is a very broad term in a sense that it encompasses profession and organizational duties because it involves sharing of lives and experiences so as to develop ones holistic identity. The term is generally used to refer to the relationship between a mentor, who has the mastery, experience wisdom passion for a profession; and a mentee, who has equal passion to learn from the mentor’s knowledge and experiences (http://www.managementhelp.org/guiding/mentrng/mentrng.htm). Our history tells us that the concept and method of mentoring has been long practiced even before the word came about. When men taught basic skills like hunting and farming, they did it through the use of modeling or mentoring (Cagle, 2004). Now in the 21st century there is an increasing need of mentoring in different fields of profession. And I have come to the conclusion that mentoring is one of the most effective means of influencing and training individuals to be dynamic and efficient leaders, rich in their personal professions in a developing community. The Bible itself shows mentoring as a way of training individuals for leadership, as what is happening in the Church today (Cagle, 2004).   .   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚     I learned that mentoring is also very substantial in the academe, especially in graduate schools. To develop professional excellence, each student should have professors or advisers who have a strong interest in their growth not just as professionals, but as dynamic individuals, and guide them to that path.   Self-directed adult learning on the other hand, although it is more informal and not necessarily academic, can also be more effective when used with mentoring.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   As Christians, we are also called to influence the society with godly leadership. Christian leaders in the community can use mentoring to train and guide their subordinates in promoting righteous and godly leadership. I believe that people in the society are looking for individuals who can mentor and motivate them to be better and excellent individuals. Now I understand that I have an important role in the development of my own sphere of influence, where I can help my colleagues to be godly citizens by mentoring them through the use of the Bible and living a godly lifestyle. I then realized that this is one way of personal leadership, that through a deep understanding of godly values and good lifestyle, I can mentor other individuals to be good citizens and future leaders in our community.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Now with the use of mentoring, church growth, especially in rural areas, can accelerate rapidly (Cagle, 2004). Training and mentoring effective church leaders will result to a growth in their individual churches. As Jesus Christ taught his disciples by mentoring, so they followed his examples and this paved the way for rapid church growth. Mentoring, which also has the characteristic of using motivation and the boosting of self-esteem, can be used in having an effective counseling ministry, where ministers could help and guide a person to his full potential.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   After learning about mentoring and having my personal insights on the method of effective influence, I now believe I can influence my peers better through the art of mentoring. I believe mentoring can occur in two ways. One way could start with an individual who needs another individual capable of guiding and mentoring him to his fullest potential. Then having found the suitable person, the mentor now decides to accept the responsibility of guiding and the mentee. And from there the relationship would develop into a fruitful, guided growth of the individual. On the other hand, mentoring can start with an older person, who sees the potential in an individual, to develop and with whom he can impart his skills and knowledge in a specific field of profession or life in general. Then now it is up to the chosen individual to accept the mentor’s offer to be guided and influenced for his personal excellent growth as an individual. And when finally accepted, the mentoring process now begins.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚     Although mentoring can be used in large scale institutions like universities and the Church, I believe it is also a way of influencing our peers and colleagues with our personal lifestyles. Like what I said earlier, I believe that mentoring is also a form of leadership. Now, having learned the concept and art of mentoring, I am now confident to influence the young people I know to be good citizens as well as future leaders in the community. Reference: Cagle, J. Art analyze Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words - 2

Art analyze - Essay Example According to Perkins (2008) art is an independent tool of communication that is not bound to time. The message in art is also not limited to language or geographical surrounding. The message in art is global and tackles issues regarding humanity in various ways. In artistic work can be used to communicate multiple messages concurrently with different meanings. This is what makes art unique and different. This course has given me a deeper insight on how to visually interpret art and skills necessary to interpret an artistic work. I have been able to understand that every work of art has more details than what we see at a first glance. With keen observation and background understanding of the artist and interpretation of different styles of art, one can get limitless information and details about an art. During the course, Bosch Hieronymus’ painting known as "Hell" was disturbing at first glance. But after an analytical and keen observation of the painting, I started realizing different concepts, ideas and symbols within the painting. There was so much in play within the painting and by visually analyzing it, the painting communicated so much especially concerning hell and punishment after death. In the painting, I was able to capture different kinds of torture humans are taken through by demons. Through the painting, I was able to get a visual perspective of how hell and the concept of eternal torture looks like. According to Rembert (2012) Bosch used his work to connect different worlds by creating visual curiosity and uncommon presentations to capture peoples attention. In general, I have now developed a keen attention to what I see around to such a way that I try to get more meaning than what everyone else is seeing. My perspective on visual communication has been enhanced to more of an analysis wherever I see anything. This does not only apply to art but

Argumentive Reserch Paper Research Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Argumentive Reserch - Research Paper Example Learners can acquire these skills when they develop appropriate attitudes and knowledge. This makes the main objective of conducting teaching and training programs to correspond to enhancement of knowledge, skills and attitude of learners. The main purpose of this essay is to argue the relevance of the message conveyed by some specific authors on the approach needed for conducting training and teaching programs (Chou, Chang, & Hauer, 2008). I believe that motivation towards learning and training is dependent on knowledge, skills, ideologies and a suitable environment. However, it is also clear that the number of students and the use of a multi-disciplinary approach are useful though the learning approach should not be specific. Counter argument I believe that the twenty steps are instrumental when handling students with learning difficulties. However, opposing ideologies indicate that these steps overwork the teachers, and compromise their ability to attend to other students. Further more, it is highlighted that people should recognise the social and cognitive skills of students while handling their learning needs (Hon and Watkins, 1995). However, the learning needs of a person transcends skills, and is dependent on the environment in several instances. I believe that the procedural steps that involve students in a workshop learning session enhances their interaction and comprehension (Chou, Chang, and Hauer, 2004). However, opposing arguments state that such an approach cannot accommodate a class with numerous students. It is only limited to a few number of students. Rao underscores the need to expose students to an environment where they easily interact with the elderly patients to improve their attitudes. However, attitude cannot be improved by exposure alone. It requires an interdisciplinary learning approach. Argument I believe that it is necessary assist the children with learning difficulties using fundamental steps. This can be successful with the provis ion of appropriate modifications in the learning process. Several steps are necessary in the quest to achieve such objectives. The authors use Greg’s experiences to develop some steps necessary for successful learning amongst children having trouble (Biddulph, Hess, & Humes, 2006). I find this rather disturbing because assuming that all children with learning difficulties are of the same level as Greg is wrong. Greg could have succeeded because the level of his difficulty was mild. Disorder depression does not adversely inhibit the process of learning. Greg listed a number of 20 steps that he considers appropriating in making a child with learning difficulties become successful (Biddulph, Hess, & Humes, 2006). I believe that Hon and Watkins’s attempt to evaluate social skills training program for Hong Kong students highlights the importance of valuing skills, and knowledge. They classify alcoholism, juvenile delinquency and depression as fundamental examples of behavio ral and neurotic problems that are responsible for psychiatric disorders. According to the authors, these are the causes of inadequate social skills. Hon and Watkins focus on directing additional efforts get to the training skills development programs for adolescents. However, these efforts mainly focus on the western countries. In response to this, they come up with well-knitted approaches to address

Teacher Leadership and Educational Reforms Research Paper

Teacher Leadership and Educational Reforms - Research Paper Example The cultural and contextual outlook of UAE provide an environment that is ideal for the propagation of academic leadership because, teaching is considered as a superior profession in Arab world thus, motivating teachers towards exercising leadership. In this kind of scenario, million-dollar investment in educational sector is a wise decision because; it will be able to change the prehistoric mindset of Arabs towards education. II. Problem Statement and Methodology The major problem that this study wants to study stems from the introduction of educational reforms in UAE educational system upon the due ability of teachers to demonstrate effective leadership. However, to analyze the problem, this paper will review the existing literature on the topic and register findings in coming stages. III. Purpose of the Study The fundamental purpose of this study is to provide a firm theoretical base for a detailed future empirical study that will quantify â€Å"the impact of educational reforms on teachers’ capacity for leadership†. IV. Literature Review At the same time, teacher also posses the duty to bless his students with confidence but, for the accomplishment of this responsibility teacher should be given job autonomy, so that he can plan his lectures and other related activities in a meaningful way. It is believed by management scholars that leadership can only be practiced in a decentralized chain of command. However, in Muslim countries, indigenous collectivist culture has made educational innovation a dream possible to achieve because; people readily form groups with each other in order to achieve some common objectives. Along with this, parents also want a bright future for their children in this fashion, supporting the teachers to bless the students with skills such as creativity that will differentiate them in an international environment. Nevertheless, UAE educational ministry has taken some notable steps recently in order to bring educational in dustry of the country in accordance with international standards. However, UAE and other modern Muslim nations are already on the path of true educational development. In these societies, individuals have been permitted to achieve their personal goals and are supposed to follow the modern social mechanism of individualism thus, inspiring the creativity of individuals, so that they can differentiate themselves in the society. In above-mentioned societies, however teachers can innovate with their teaching methodologies because of flexible cultural aspects, which permit people to think differently. Additionally, when people do think differently they are considered as leaders. So everybody listens to them, due to this supportive societal behavior, people feel encouraged towards thinking differently, therefore creativity always come from enlightened professors of various educational departments in UAE.. However, in developed nations, it is a well-preserved tradition to train teachers in art of advanced leadership, so that they can exercise it during practicing their profession (Coombe, 2009). These institutions are providing able teaching staff for world-renowned universities and institutions for number of centuries. Arab communities are turning towards educational activities and developed culture of collective learning in order to build up their viable human capital in educational sector for the future (Al-Taneiji, 2010).

Lifelet assignment Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Lifelet assignment - Essay Example I am currently working in the physics lab at Stanford University as part of my graduate school studies. I am so very pleased that I was able to land this position as it took ten days (at ten letters per day) worth of e-mailing just to get the professor’s attention regarding my desire to participate in Stanford lab activities. The university staff was very helpful in writing the necessary recommendation letters so that I could succeed in America and I will be forever grateful for their assistance. I came to the United States on May 22, 2005, arriving in San Francisco. At first, I have to admit that I was quite overwhelmed by the architecture and the vast variety of food available on market shelves. People always seemed to be rushing around which was quite different than the culture in Korea who are more laid back in terms of managing personal and business-related priorities. I have to admit that I, at first, expected that America would have similar cultural values and beliefs, however this personal misconception gave me somewhat of a rude awakening. For instance, Koreans are generally more open about expressing their personal feelings because of the collectivist culture which exists overseas. Most everyone in Korea shares similar beliefs and values, making it easy for most everyone to relate to one another. Americans are very individualistic and are more reserved when it comes to self-expression and generally work on their own, unique life agendas. When I first began working in the Stanford lab environment, I was taken aback by Americans’ reservations about discussing personal issues and did not find the highly collaborative environment I was expecting. In Korea, people who work together generally become very close and share their life stories, such as birthdays, family issues, and their areas of personal interest. During the first portion of my lab work at the university, I really did

Kmart Case Study Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Kmart - Case Study Example By bringing down its operational costs an organization can offer its products and services at lower prices. It can also earn higher profits because either the profit margins are greater or the sales volume has increased. Thus an organization which follows an overall lower cost strategy can gain an edge over its competitors. Cost leadership strategy works well for the company in the event of a price war in the industry. (Kotler, 2006) Another strategy followed by Wal-Mart was differentiation focus strategy. Underneath this strategy, Wal-Mart introduced its stores in rural and suburban areas. (Wheelen& Hunger, 2008) By utilizing differentiation focus strategy a firm differentiates its products from that of its competitors based on some attributes that allow the consumers to perceive the products as different from its competitors. A firm looks for differentiation in a particular segmented target market. Target and Kohl’s followed differentiation strategy. Target and Kohl’s applied value proposition in which these companies communicated the benefits they can deliver to the customers. Target flourished well because it provided products at low prices with high quality catering to youth in urban areas. (Wheelen& Hunger, 2008) 2. The amalgamation of both lower cost strategy and differentiation focus strategy were most effective. This can be exemplified by Wal-Mart that utilized both and became the leading story in the retail sector. The lower price of Wal-Mart creates a barrier for the new entrants as these new entrants cannot break through the cost advantage of the leader. The Wal-Marts differentiation focus allowed it to concentrate on the particular needs of a segmented market more efficiently as compared to its competitors. (Wheelen& Hunger, 2008) Lower Cost Strategy: In the presence of leaders like Wal-Mart and Target, Kmart has little alternatives in making pricing strategy to match up with these leaders.

Wireless devices and applications Essay Example for Free

Wireless devices and applications Essay 1.0 Introduction Most of mobile organizations make use of wireless operations this is because they know that with this operation it is a bit simple to use and the costs that is related to it is not very high. This has the indication that most of the organizations are ready to make use of it because they have assurance that it has privacy protection. With change in the technology in the whole world most of customers want privacy and better connectivity at the same time that are not mutually exclusive. There is a broad acceptance of WDA in countries that elected to include wireless numbers in the DA database from the inception of the wireless industry. (Green, 2002) 2.0 Wireless Device Application The wireless devices are common as they are more in front line with assurance of sales and service provision this has the indication that most of the companies ensure that they make use of the wireless devices so that they can be in a position to come up with the right communication to their employees. In this I mean that the employees who are employed in sales organization have to make use of this communication so that they can be in a Position to information their customers what are required. Therefore they have to be in contact with customers if they have to succeed in their sales, this is because lack of functional bridge between the office communications infrastructure and the mobile environment will cause a lot of problems for mobile employees, their organization and their customers which will result to communication delay that will slow down the operation of a business.   Most of the problems that arise are multiple contact numbers, frequent missed calls, voice mail jail, multiple voice mail boxes and expensive conferencing. Most of the organizations are spending a lot of income in the wireless communications service in every data this is because it is a communication that has to be funded so that they can keep their customers informed. This will mean that if they fail to pay everything that is required by the wireless communication company then they will not be in a position to inform the customers about the company products which will not affect the growth of the company. There are numerous carrier services like long distance sertivices. These problems that take place like many missed calls come about because the customers, suppliers and employees do not know which phone   number to call   so that they can reach the mobile employee. In other words this will mean that with many numbers they are not in a position to know which number will reach a targeted customer this will mean that they will just call numbers which will not be effective and the customers will not be reached as it is required. Therefore the employees will face difficulties in dealing with these problems mainly due to the fact that they should be in a point of receiving the calls of the most important customers but instead they get calls of people who are not important to the organization in terms of raising its sales. The problem of unnecessary voicemail jail come in due ton the fact that the mobile users attempt to connect with callers after missing the original call attempt. (Green, 2002) This will mean that employees will face a lot of problems due to the attempt to connect with customers   as   the first call has failed then one will switch off to other calls meaning that they will not be in a position to get the   customers in a easy way. The problem of wasted time and wireless usage expense which is caused by constant calls ins to check mail by out of office employees. The most pressing problem is the expense that has to be taken by a organization that makes use of the wireless communication this will mean that this communication is not that simple as they might think of it because there are charges that are supposed to be paid failure to which an organization will not be in a position to have expansion in its operations. The charges that are supposed to be paid by an organization will be in office or their home calls and still the calls that are made between the employees where a company has to make long distance rates at a high cost. This will mean that a company will have high charges as it tries to conduct most of the employees and important people that are supposed to be in the organization in other words there are people who are supposed to ensure that the organization is not facing problems in its operations these people have to be conducted and this will mean that wherever they have to be reached any time when they are required. Still a high cost will be in the large administrative effort in that the managers and all the officials in an organization have to ensure that they come up with the approval of wireless expenses meaning that each person who is involved in the organization must be conducted. Therefore they will have to ensure that the expenses that are spend  Ã‚   are in line with the operations of the organization meaning that the managers may not be able to approve the expense and this will lead to lack of communication because these costs have to be paid and a lot of time is wasted in conducting every official in organization. (Dipietro, 2004) Still the organization will face the expenses of inability to control mobile communications meaning that these devices have to be checked frequently and this is a cost that is to be incurred in an organization. Therefore the expense that is required to be covered in the wireless communication is very high and most of the organizations will end up failing in operations because they will not be able to curb the expenses. The problem of wireless devices and applications lies on the expenses that have to be incurred in an organization. This will mean that if it is a sales organization it has to ensure that the customers are informed of the costs of products and convince them that the product is the best. This will take time because most of the customers can not be easily convinced therefore what they end up doing will be to have high expenses that will be charged by the wireless company.   The expense problem has coverage of every activity that is carried out if it is   missed calls then still there are charges that have to be charged meaning that organization should have a plan on the use of wireless   devices so that they can reduce the costs. The other charges are on the maintenance of these devices this is because these devices are very delicate and should be taken with a lot of concern therefore what one has to do will be to ensure that they have the right maintenance to reduce costs of repair but the problem is that they have to be checked frequently meaning that when there is a problem a high cost has to be invested if they have to communicate well with their customers. This problem of expense leads a company to a point in which it has to make a decision so that there can be a solution to the problem because a company that operates without keeping in mind the costs that have to be incurred then it will not be able to succeed in all the operations and expansion of such organization is very hard. Therefore a sales company should have a plan that will give it guidelines as they have to make use of this wireless devices because it is a fast way that can be used to inform the customers but the problem of expense has to be dealt with so that they can be sure that even if they have to spend in the wireless devices they are sure that costs is not very high. (Dipietro, 2004) The communication efficiency solution will be to come up with the best applications that will lead to a solution to this problem. Like for example there is the blue butler which is a suite that is unique and has powerful communication applications. This suite is designed so that it can increase the business processes for the enterprise so that they can drive revenue and improve the service delivery, ensure that a company will have customer retention and competition is maintained. This is a software platform that enables the communication to be effective in an organization and it is made effective through ensuring that the existing and evolving communication infrastructure are maintained. The organization is in a position to get the   benefits   of the latest communication   efficiencies   not minding about the equipment, network services or the communications   devices that are in use now or in future   which an  Ã‚   organization will be able to deploy. This will mean that a sales organization that has to succeed in its operations will have to use this blue butler so that it can have benefits that are supposed to be received if it has to operate   Ã‚  without facing problems of communication delays. The implementation plan that is taken by a sales company will be targeted to the blue butler   which is affordable   digital call recording technology that   ensure that the  Ã‚   company will benefit from the recording   calls. In the implementation plan that what is put in place is the dramatic quality improvement in that a sales company will be in a position to have high quality goods this is because the employees are at their professional be st in knowing that management is right this has the indication that the employees have to treat the customers with respect and professionalism so that the customers can know that they are part of the organization and have to keep everything the way it is required. (Chris, 2005) Therefore the staff will have limited time that is lost in unproductive activities as the internal calls will be focused on business issues. Another thing is that   Ã‚  the   Ã‚  delivery is continuous, feedback and best practice training in that the training of staff is done on the best practices that will lead to expansion in an organization. In the training they know the behavior that is accepted by all customers and how to improve the operational results that is through effective telephone practice. This will mean that in the use of the   telephone then the customers will be free as they will be given what they require in other words in the training that is offered to them then they are in a position to know what they have to do so that they can   reach the customers without delays. There will be fast dispute   resolution in that incase a company is involved in problems then the solution will be tackled without wasting time this is because they   know   what they are supposed to do so that they can have reduced   conflict if they have to   win many customers. This means that they will have reliance on face based recordings to eliminate no win confrontations that will lead to time wastage in unproductive activities. There is reduction of errors and omission claims that are can take place in a sales organization this will mean that there will be maintenance of good customer relations that will be referred to facts rather than hearsay cases. This will imply that the errors that can be involved in an organization due to  Ã‚   simple mistakes will be catered for this is because they are in a position to know what is required of them in other words if the organization requires high sales then this has to be received only through cooperation and relations with each other in an organization. The customers should be taken as a part of organization which will lead to high expansion of organization. (Chris, 2005) In the implementation plan there will be streamlining of order processing in that with the use of recorded phone verifications that are used as audio signatures to book then it means that an organization will be able to eliminate wastage of time and errors that are likely to take place in organization. This means that the order processing will be done with a lot of concern and in the time that is required. The organization will be able to ensure that they comply with  Ã‚   costs that are charged this is only opposable if an organization is in a position to come up with the best  Ã‚   communications in other words in the implementation plan that organization will be in a position to ensure that they will not face high expenses of communication that might interfere with the operations of organization.   The organization will be in a position to ensure that they come up with the right access to the customers this is because in the plan they have dealt with the problems that might arise in the organization itself, staff and employees therefore the organization will access the problems that may raise and deal with them before they lead to more harm. In this I mean that an organization that makes use of blue butler as a solution to the problem of expenses that are faced in organization due to use of wireless communication then they will be in a position to ensure that they are able to operate with limited cases of lack of operations and at the same time they will have high costs. Therefore all organizations should ensure that the problems that are linked to wireless devices and applications are dealt with so that they have high expansion. The technology improvements will enable the building of information systems which can be used in any place at any time. (Basili, 1990) This imply that companies that make use of mobile devices will be in a position to   rise its production, ensure that the procedures are flexible and change the services that are given to their customers and   ensure that information is accurate for decision making. Generally what I mean is that organizations have to face a lot of problems but what they have to do so that they can deal with their problems will be to adopt a service that will be less costly and will deal with problems that are faced   in an organization. In a sales organization most of the problems that are related to communication will be to reach employees and customers so that they can have high sales. Therefore no organization will be able to reach all the customers without a link to communication therefore with the technology changes that are taking place in the world today the organizations should be in a position to change with the technology so that they will not be left out in expansion. In this I mean that the customers want to be reached and convinced about a product therefore to make sure this is reached then it is only their the use of the right communication measures that will ensure that they are   given information that is best but the problem is cost that has to be incurred. A company has to choose a communication linkage that will reach many customers in a short time and with limited costs incurred. This is mainly because they are supposed to ensure that they reach all and the only way through will be  Ã‚   wireless devices and other devices that are in use today. Therefore a company that has to come up and be successful in its operations will be through the use of communication that is not very expensive and will reach many customers. (Basili, 1990) 3.0 Conclusion In the use of wireless devices and applications there are many dangers that might come up but the solutions will be that the company will have high production because the customer will be reached with limited time lost. Therefore companies should make sure that in any information system that is to be used then they have the right procedure taken so that they have communication channel been complete. In this I mean that with high costs in communication many companies will not be in a point of reaching all their customers but to deal with this problem then what they will have to do will be to come up with communication that is less costly and will cover many customers.

The History Of Cleopatra VII

The History Of Cleopatra VII Cleopatra VII was the last person to rule Egypt as an Egyptian pharaoh. After her death Egypt became a Roman province. She was a member of the Ptolemaic dynasty (a royal family which ruled Egypt during the Hellinistic Period-323 BC to 146 BC) of Ancient Egypt. She is therefore considered to be a descendant of one of Alexander the Greats generals who had seized control over Egypt after Alexanders death. Cleopatra learned Egyptian unlike other Ptolemies who spoke Greece and refused Egyptian and represented herself as the reincarnation of an Egyptian Goddess. Cleopatra VII ruled originally with her father Ptolemy XII Auletes (commonly name as Auletes and who ruled Egypt from 80 to 58 BC) and later with her brothers, Ptolemy XIII and Ptolemy XIV. Later she became a sole ruler. As pharaoh, she kept good relations with Julius Caesar (Roman General who played a critical role in the transformation from Roman Republic to Roman Empire) that solidified her grip on the throne. After Caesars assassination in 44 BC, she aligned with Mark Antony in opposition to Caesars legal heir and she bore the twins Cleopatra Selene II and Alexander Helios, and another son, Ptolemy Philadelphus. Mark Antony was defeated by Octavian (the future emperor Augustus) and hence Egypt became the Roman province of Aegyptus. Though Cleopatra was an Egyptian pharaoh but she basically belonged to the Ptolemaic dynasty which was Hellenistic. Cleopatras mother language was Greek but still was the first ruler of the dynasty to learn Egyptian. She also adopted Egyptian beliefs and deities. Her patron deity was Isis (a Goddess in Ancient Egyptian religious beliefs) and thus was considered the re-incarnation and embodiment of the goddess. Her death marked the end of the Ptolemaic Kingdom and Hellenistic period and the beginning of the Roman era in the eastern Mediterranean. The above picture displays the bust of Cleopatra VII who is depicted as a great beauty and her legacy still survives in various works of art and dramas. William Shakespeares Antony and Cleopatra, Jules Massenets opera, Clà ©opà ¢tre are some examples of dramatizations inspired by Cleopatras life. REIGN 51 BC TO 12 August 30 BC SUCCESSOR None (Egypt was annexed by Rome) SPOUSE Ptolemy XIII Theos Philopator Ptolemy XIV Julius Caesar (not legally wed) Mark Antony FATHER Ptolemy XII Auletes MOTHER Cleopatra V of Egypt BORN 69 BC DIED 12th August 30 BC (aged 39) BURIAL Burial was done in Alexandria, Egypt Cleopatra in the Roman Civil War In the Roman civil war between the Caesarean party which was led by Mark Antony and Octavian and party led by Marcus Junius Brutus and Gaius Cassius Longinus who assassinated Julius Caesar. Cleopatra sided with the Caesarean party because of her past. Brutus and Cassius together and sailed to the East of the Roman Empire and conquered large areas and established their military bases. Now Cassius wanted to invade Egypt to seize the treasures of that country and to take the revenge from the queen as she refused his request to send him supplies punish the queen for her refusal of Cassius request to send him supplies and her support for Dolabella (a Roman General). At that time in Egypt there was famine and an epidemic which became an important reason why Cassius thought that Egypt could easily be conquered. But still he could not execute the invasion of Egypt because at the end of 43 BC Brutus called him back to Smyrna (an ancient city located at a central and strategic point on the Aegean coast of Anatolia now located in Turkey). Cassius tried to blockade Cleopatras way to the Caesareans. Nevertheless Cleopatra sailed with her military from Alexandria to the west along the Libyan coast to join the Caesarean leaders but she was forced to return to Egypt because her ships were damaged by a violent storm and she became ill. Relationship with Julius Caesar Cleopatra became Caesars mistress, and nine months after their first meeting, in 47 BC, Cleopatra gave birth to their son, Ptolemy Caesar, nicknamed Caesorian , which means little Caesar. At this point Caesar cancelled his plans to annex Egypt, instead backing Cleopatras claim to the throne. After a war lasting six months between the party of Ptolemy XIII and the Roman army of Caesar, Ptolemy XIII was drowned in the Nile (longest river of the world situated in Egypt) and Caesar restored Cleopatra to her throne and assigned her younger brother Ptolemy IV as her new co-rule. Although Cleopatra was 21 years old when they met and Caesar was 52, they became lovers during Caesars stay in Egypt between 48 BC and 47 BC. Cleopatra claimed Caesar was the father of her son and wanted his son to be the heir of Julius Caesar but instead of making his son caesorian, his heir, he chose his grandnephew Octavian. But Caesar even erected a golden statue of Cleopatra represented as Isis in the temple of Venus Genetrix (the mythical ancestress of Caesars family), which was situated at the Forum Julium (a forum built by Julius Caesar in Rome). Caesar was assassinated on 15 March, 44 BC. At that time Cleopatra was in Rome along with her outrages. After Caesars assassination Cleopatra returned to Egypt with her relatives. After the death of Ptolemy XIV who was allegedly poisoned by his elder sister, Cleopatra made her son Caesorian, her successor and gave her an epithet (an epithet as a descriptive word or phrase given to someone) Theos Philopator Philometor which means Father and mother loving God. Cleopatra and Mark Antony Coin of Antony and Cleopatra In 41 BC, Mark Antony, one of the triumvirs (name historians give to the official political alliance of Gaius Julius Caesar Octavians, later known as Augustus) who ruled Rome after the assassination of Julius Caesar. Dellius had to summon Cleopatra to Tarsus (a historical city in south eastern Turkey) to meet there Antony and answer questions about her loyalty. During the Roman civil war she allegedly paid much money to Cassius due to which Antony lost his trust on Dellius. Actually it seemed that in reality Antony wanted Cleopatras promise to support his war against the Parthians (citizens of Parthia a region of North eastern Iran). Cleopatra had Antony order the death of her sister Arsinoe to safeguard herself and her son, Caesarion. Arsinoe at that time was living at the temples of Artemis in Ephesus (Artemis is one of the religious Greek deities which is situated in Ephesus which is an ancient Greek city). On 25 December 40 BC, Cleopatra gave birth to twins fathered by Antony, Alexander Helios and Cleopatra Selene II. Four years later, Antony visited Alexandria again on route to make war with the Parthians. Donations of Alexandria was a religious-political statement by Cleopatra VII and Mark Antony in which they distributed lands of Rome and Parthia amongst Cleopatras children and granted them many titles especially for Caesarian who was the son of Julius Caesar. Donations of Alexandria was announced in late 34 BC, followed by Antonys conquest of Armenia (a client state of roman and Persian Empires stretching from Caspian to Mediterranean sea), Cleopatra and Caesarian were crowned co-rulers of Egypt and Cyprus. Cleopatra Selene II was crowned ruler of Cyrenaica and Libya and Ptolemy Philadelphus was crowned ruler of Phoenicia, Syria, and Cilicia. Donations of Alexandria were also a main reason for The Final war of the Roman Republic. Cleopatra was also given the title of Queen of Kings by Antonio. Her enemies in Rome feared that Cleopatra was planning a war of revenge that was between the whole of East against the Rome and establish herself as empress of the world at Rome and inaugurate a new universal kingdom. Caesarian was given co-regency with Cleopatra and was also given many titles such as god, son of god and king of kings. Egyptians thought Cleopatra to be a reincarnation of goddess Isis, as she called herself (NEA Isis). Relations between Antony and Octavian finally broke down in 33 BC, and Octavian declared a war against Egypt. In 31 BC Antonys forces faced the Romans in a naval action off the coast of Actium. Cleopatra was present with an army of her own. But Octavians invaded Egypt in the Battle of Actium and thus Antony and Cleopatra lost this war and thus the Roman Empire took over the Egypt. As he approached Alexandria, Antonys armies deserted to Octavian on August 1, 30 BC. DEATH This picture above shows the death of Cleopatra which was drawn by Guido Cagnacci in 1658. There have been many stories about the death of Cleopatra VII such as according to the ancient sources; particularly the Roman ones think that Cleopatra killed herself by inducing an Egyptian cobra to bite her. The oldest source is Strabo who was a Greek historian, geographer and a philosopher says that there are two stories: That she applied a toxic ointment OR That she was bitten by an asp. Other authors have questioned these historical accounts, stating that it is possible that Augustus had her killed. In 2010, the German historian Christophe Schaefer challenged all other theories, declaring that the queen had actually been poisoned and died from drinking a mixture of poisons. After studying historic texts and consulting with toxicologists, the historian concluded that the asp could not have caused a slow and pain free death, since the asp (Egyptian cobra) venom paralyses parts of the body, starting with the eyes, before causing death. Schaefer and his toxicologist Dietrich Mebs decided Cleopatra used a mixture of hemlock, wolfsbane and opium. Plutarch, writing about 130 years after the event has also mentioned the asp to be the major reason for Cleopatras death. He reports that Octavian succeeded in capturing Cleopatra in her Mausoleum after the death of Antony. He ordered his freedman Epaphroditus to guard her to prevent her from committing suicide because he allegedly wanted to present her in his triumph. But Cleopatra still was able to suicide by provoking the asp (cobra) to bite her on her arm. Suetonius, writing about the same time as Plutarch, also says Cleopatra died from an asp bite. Shakespeare also gave his own theory on the death of Cleopatra which gives us the image of Cleopatra clutching the snake to her breast. Before him, it was generally agreed that she was bitten on the arm. The site of their Mausoleum (a monument) is uncertain, though it is thought by the Egyptian Antiquities Service, to be in or near the temple of Taposiris Magna south west of Alexandria. Cleopatras son by Caesar, Caesarian, was proclaimed pharaoh by the Egyptians, after Alexandria fell to Octavian. Caesarean was captured and killed by Octavians. CONCLUSION: Why the women in world history were not given due importance? By taking the example of Cleopatra VII, the reasons why women were not given importance are: Cleopatra being the mother was more concerned about her children. She always tried her children to get throne unlike Julius Caesar who chose his grandnephew. Women are more directed towards their own children rather than caring about their kingdom. Cleopatra was not much concerned for her empire or the kingdom and was more aligned towards her family. Donations of Alexandria is the most important example which clearly explains that Cleopatra cared only about her family. She could have given those empires to some more educated or strong and a better person which could have helped her and Antony in the battle against Octavians. Well these were the main reasons why I think women were not given due importance in history.
